Any persons who requires an awareness of casualty packaging using a variety of stretchers for work at height purposes.

Casualty Packaging Work at Height Course Overview

This course is designed to instruct any persons who requires an awareness of working at height casualty packaging in the event of a fall from height including possible spinal injuries, immobilisation of limbs or limited descend options using a variety of medical procedures and stretchers as part of an existing rescue plan, or safe system of work.

Course Content

The course will allow learners to evaluate immediate medical needs of injured personnel and be expected to package injured personnel on to full stretchers, stabilize personnel and ensure they are ready to be moved correctly and safely, covering:

  • Legislation when working at height
  • Stretcher and Personal Protective Equipment—inspection & use
  • Dynamic risk assessments for casualty care
  • Casualty moving
  • Stretcher use & packing
  • Movement of stretcher including handling techniques.
  • System setup & use for a casualty recovery using a winch or rescue device
  • Recovery pack limitations and inspections
  • Rescue planning awareness.

Learning Outcomes

  • Safely package a casualty into a stretcher.
  • Provide necessary care at both pre and post rescue stages.
  • Safely manoeuvre casualties into a stretcher and then move or descend safely.

In order to ensure the interaction between the learners and the tutor is spread evenly and effectively the maximum number of learners allowed on a course is six.

More Details

Learners may be responsible for planning a safe system of work or be an existing member of a competent rescue team.

Stretchers can be provided for training.

Learner must be medically fit and robust due to the practical element of this course.

Casualty packaging can be integrated as part of our existing work at height rescue, or tower crane rescue courses, should you require a full rescue package.
