Course Information
The SSSTS refresher course is for delegates who have previously passed the two-day Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course and can provide proof of successful attendance. Both the SSSTS and the SSSTS Refresher course are endorsed by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) as the standard for all site supervisors. It will provide site supervisors with an update on the latest health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation, as well as legal responsibilities that are relevant to their work activities. The course includes a wide range of topics which have been affected by changes to procedures, and builds upon the material in the original course.
Please note: you must ensure your current certification is in date prior to attending the refresher course.
In addition to face-to-face instruction, we provide the opportunity to deliver this course through interactive Video Online Learning, catering to remote learners pursuing their CITB SSSTS Refresher qualification. Our SSSTS Refresher online courses are conducted via a Zoom virtual classroom, facilitated by our proficient and seasoned Site Safety Plus instructors.
Attendance - Full attendance of the course is mandatory to achieve a pass. Should your internet connection fail during the course for a prolonged period of time, or repeatedly, you may not be able to re-join as requested by the trainer, unless it can be re-established within 5 minutes. This is so general learning is not disturbed for other participants.
Course Publications - the day before your course is due to commence, you will receive an email from our training team containing a link and voucher code to download your copy of the supporting publications for the course - Construction site supervision (GE706) and Toolbox talks (GT700). (Please double check your spam or junk folder).
As part of this process you will be required to download a reader app:
Please note: your subscription will last for a defined period of 12 months. During this period the publication will automatically update with any amendments. After 12 months, the publication can still be viewed but there will not be any new updates.
Joining the Video Learning - Our courses are conducted via Zoom, and you will receive your personalised meeting link as part of your course enrolment instructions. We always recommend downloading the App in preparation of the course, you can find instructions here - https://zoom.us/download. Further support using Zoom can be found here – familiarise yourself with this prior to your course - https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/p/zoom-meetings-guide
To help site supervisors to:
The SSSTS refresher course is only for delegates who have previously passed the two-day Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course and can provide proof of successful attendance. If a delegate cannot provide a copy of their certificate, the online card checker can be used to establish if a delegate currently holds a valid SSSTS certificate: https://www.citb.co.uk/cards-testing/online-card-checker/
If an individual cannot be located on the system and no evidence of their certificate can be found, they will have to attend the full Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course. Failure to attend the refresher course prior to the expiry of an existing certificate will require the delegate to re-enter the scheme by completing the full Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course if they wish to remain in the scheme.
Photographic ID will be requested by the tutor at the start of the course i.e. Driving Licence/Passport.
Please be aware that it is a requirement of our Awarding Body - Site Safety Plus (CITB) that ALL delegates attending this course must read and understand English. If you do not think you will have the sufficient English skills in order to the pass the examination please contact us for advice on reasonable adjustments allowed by the Awarding Body.
Delegates Attending from Outside Great Britain (Remote Courses Only)
Essential Site Skills deliver CITB Site Safety Plus courses in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. For delegates joining remotely from outside Great Britain, CITB requires a short written declaration confirming that they are attending the course in order to work within the Great British construction industry. This must be completed before the course begins.
The minimum number of delegates per course is 4. The maximum number of delegates per course is 20. For online courses the maximum number is 12. These are stipulated by the awarding body and are not subject to appeal.
The CITB SSSTS-R is part of the Site Safety Plus suite of courses, which is offered by CITB Site Safety Plus for individuals aiming to enhance their expertise in the construction, civil engineering, and related sectors. These courses are tailored to various proficiency levels, from operatives to senior managers, and equip you with the necessary skills to advance in the construction industry. Assessment will be by an exam paper at the end of the course.
The examination paper is compulsory and consists of 25 questions, selected by CITB, covering all aspects of the course.
The examination pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30)
The paper consists of 22 multiple choice questions and three short written questions. There are four safety critical questions in each exam paper. The delegate must answer all four of these questions correctly to pass the exam. The multiple choice questions are worth 1 point each, whereas written questions can score between 1-3 marks.
The exam paper forms the basis of assessment of whether or not a delegate has successfully achieved a satisfactory level of understanding to be awarded the Site supervision safety training scheme refresher (SSSTS-R) certificate.
The examination lasts for 30 minutes and must be completed within this time.
Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site supervision (GE706) publication for the last ten minutes of the examination period.
Where a delegate has achieved between 70%-77% (21, 22 or 23 out of 30) in the examination or has achieved the 80% pass rate but failed the safety critical questions, the delegate may re-sit the examination. This can either be on the same day or be resitting the exam by attending another course on the final day within a 90 day period (the delegate is not obliged to re-do the day’s course).
The training provider must make arrangements with the delegate and ensure that the same examination paper is not used twice.
Subsequent arrangements will be at the delegate’s own expense.
Should a delegate fail the re-sit, they will be offered to take the SSSTS-R course again.
When a delegate scores less than 67% (20 correct answers out of 30) in the final examination, the delegate must attend he full SSSTS-R course again before they are allowed to re-sit the examination.
Certification
You will receive a CITB SSSTS digital PDF Certificate valid for 5 years.
To ensure you keep your qualification valid, you must attend the 1 day SSSTS Refresher course before the expiry date of your SSSTS certificate (there is no grace period available).
