The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Food and Beverage Service) is eligible for Funding and is designed to help develop knowledge, skills and understanding for learners employed or wishing to gain employment in food and/or beverage services.

Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Food and Beverage Service) Purpose

This qualification will:

  • focus on the study of the hospitality and catering (food and beverage service) within the retail and commercial enterprise sector
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide opportunities to acquire a number of technical skills.

Hospitality and Catering Objectives

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • help the learner understand the importance of team work, and why it’s important to maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • allow learners to understand how to maintain food safety whilst giving customers a positive impression of themselves and their organisation.

  4. Food safety in catering
  5. Principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Food and Beverage Service) learners must achieve 16 credits in total: 8 credits from the mandatory Group A, at least one credit from optional group B, at least one credit from optional group C and the remaining credits from optional groups B, C or D. 

Assessment involves a blended delivery approach - This is a mixture of face-to-face and remote sessions with a qualified assessor.

Delegates will be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Food and Beverage Service).

While completing this qualification, learners may develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for in employees. These range from familiar ‘key skills’ such as team working, independent learning and problem solving, to more tricky-to-measure skills such as:

  • an appreciation for appropriate behaviour and dress
  • appropriate interpersonal skills
  • communicating with professional colleagues/peers and/or hierarchical seniors
