This comprehensive 1-day training course on Safe Management of Fluids provides essential knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage and safely handle fluids, particularly blood and bodily fluids, in various work environments. Designed with a strong emphasis on practical safety measures and risk minimisation, the course ensures that all participants understand their responsibilities clearly and can confidently adhere to best practice standards.
Understand legislation and regulations relevant to handling hazardous fluids, including Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and other pertinent HSE guidelines.
Identify different types of bodily fluids and their associated hazards, such as bacteria and viruses (e.g., Hepatitis, HIV).
Learn procedures for safely managing spillages and contamination incidents to minimise risks.
Properly select and utilise Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Implement effective infection control practices to safeguard oneself and the public.
Recognise and respond appropriately to exposure incidents and emergencies.
Legislation overview (Health and Safety at Work, COSHH, GDPR, Safeguarding, etc.)
Understanding pathogens and infection risks (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites)
Detailed focus on Blood-borne Viruses (Hepatitis A-E, HIV)
Safe systems of work and risk assessment method statements (RAMS/SSOW)
Safe practices in managing spillages: barriers, containment, clean-up, disposal
Correct selection, application, and disposal of PPE
Proper hand hygiene techniques
Procedures for sharps and contaminated items handling
Apart from in-person teaching, we offer the choice of Interactive Video Online Learning for individuals working remotely who aim to acquire their Safe Management of Fluids certification from the comfort of their home or workplace. This online course is guided by one of our exceptionally experienced tutors and delivers an engaging classroom experience through Zoom video conferencing.
Attendance - Full attendance of the course is mandatory to achieve a pass. Should your internet connection fail during the course for a prolonged period of time, or repeatedly, you may not be able to re-join as requested by the trainer, unless it can be re-established within 5 minutes. This is so general learning is not disturbed for other participants.

Assessment
Participants will be assessed through practical exercises during the session and a written assessment at the end of the training to confirm understanding.
Certification
Upon successful completion learners will be issued with an Essential Site Skills Safe Management of Fluids digital PDF certificate valid for 3 years.
