This Spill Kit training course is aimed at members of a designated spill team, spill team leaders, persons likely to be involved in directing the spill team response or any member of staff who may be asked to use your spill response inventory.

Spill Kit Training Course Overview

Many industrial and commercial sites have the potential to cause significant environmental harm, which could threaten water supplies, public health and wild life in the event of an environmental incident for example fire, explosion or spillage.

The main objective of this Spill Kit training course is to ensure that those designated to respond to an incident where a potentially dangerous or environmentally damaging spillage has occurred, know the correct procedure and how to use a site spill kit correctly.

This is a very practical course, designed for the hands-on learner. The course takes learners through a series of spill scenarios relevant to your site conditions and chemical inventory.

Specific Requirements

Should there be any specific requirements that you would particularly like covered in the course more than anything else i.e. covering a certain piece of spill kit equipment or piece of legislation etc. then please lets us know and we can adjust for this.

What kind of spill kit is required?

There are a few different types of spill kits available that are suitable for certain types of spillages:

General purpose – This type of kit is designed for water-based liquids and hydrocarbons alike. These kits use grey absorbents to make for the most effective way of cleaning up the aforementioned spillages.

Oil-Only – Using white absorbents, the oil-only kit is designed to clean up oil and gasoline, and other hydrocarbons. These absorbents float on water, making for a more effective clean of hydrocarbons.

Hazmat – As the name suggests, this kit is designed only for use on hazardous materials, such as corrosive acids and solvents. These kits use yellow absorbents.

The kind of spill kit you require depends on the types of materials that are regularly handled in your workplace. For some environments, more than one type of spill kit may be required. Some oil spill kits may be labelled as ‘suitable for mild chemicals’, but this does not make them a suitable alternative. Instead, make sure you opt for the kit specifically designed for the particular materials present in your premises.
