Essential Site Skills have chosen The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity as our lead Charity for 2022.

John Wright, Senior Training & Consultancy Manager, Essential Site Skills (pictured) is preparing to undertake an ambitious fundraising effort for the Lighthouse Club – The Construction Industry Charity. They are the only charity that provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families.

John is challenging himself to walk, jog, run the 100km looped route through the heart of the Cotswolds, non-stop, in an aim to raise awareness for Mental Health in Construction and fundraising for the Help Inside the Hard Hat’ a 24/7 confidential support line which is completely reliant on volunteers, fundraising and charitable donations.

So, we have a small favour to ask. Please support the Lighthouse Club and John’s Challenge – If you can, it will only take a minute of your time to send vital financial and emotional support to Construction Workers and their families.

Follow the link www.justgiving.com/john-wright95 and please donate if you can.

Your support will boost key areas of wellbeing first aid and mind builder resources, include:

  • Mental Wellbeing; covering anxiety, depression, anger, suicidal thoughts, sleep and building resilience
  • Physical Wellbeing; covering aches and pains, nutrition, weight management cancer, alcohol, and drug addiction
  • Financial Wellbeing; covering budgeting, debt management, tax and legal advice, retirement planning and emergency financial aid

Taking care of people in the construction industry and their families is vital.

“Every working day, two construction workers take their own life. We must educate everyone in this industry to recognise the signs and symptoms of our colleagues that are suffering from stress, anxiety or depression and start the conversation to assist in their recovery.”

As an industry we need to do more to help and support the construction workforce and their families. John Wright, Senior Training & Consultancy Manager, Essential Site Skills has chosen to do just that.

Taking on the Cotswold Way Challenge – 100km looped route through the heart of the Cotswolds, non-stop on the 25 June 2022.

In John’s words, ‘My non-stop 100km around the Cotswold will be tough, however’, ‘the real challenge is creating an atmosphere where we can talk proactively about our problems’, John continued, ‘building a supportive network into our work-life balance is the starting point to building everyday resilience into our mental wellbeing’, he continued, ‘The Lighthouse Club does incredible work supporting the construction community and their families’, and I’m so pleased to once again be able to support this foundation’. he said, ‘No one is untouched by challenges, and the reality is, everyone may encounter wellness issues at some point either directly or indirectly’.

Participating in the Cotswold Way Challenge gives John and the Essential Site Skills team the opportunity to raise funds for the construction industry charity, The Lighthouse Club. This is the only charity that provides mental, physical and financial wellbeing support to the Construction Community and their Families. They provide a 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline which provides free and confidential support services, and this is complemented by their free Construction Industry Helpline App which offers expert guidance on a huge variety of wellbeing issues. The Lighthouse Club also offers free mental health and wellbeing training for the construction community.
