Now that we have our first blog post under our belts we thought we would use our blog to talk about the variety of courses we offer, how we can help and any other industry relevant news. This week we explain everything you need to know about the CITB Site safety Plus (SSP) scheme, how we are involved, and why and who should consider a CITB training course.
The Site Safety Plus Scheme is ran by The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and has been developed for people working in construction or engineering industries who want to further their career and stay safe at work.
Site Safety Plus (SSP) is a suite of courses for health and safety awareness and career development that have been developed specifically for the construction industry so anyone who chooses to complete training knows that the information they receive won’t be broad, but specific to their roles and workplace.
There is a variety of courses available under the SSP scheme, from one-day health & safety courses to five-day site management courses.
The courses are not aimed at any type of employee, rather the entire construction industry – anyone can take advantage of additional training, no matter what stage of their career. Site Safety Plus courses are aimed at a variety of people from operatives to senior managers. Remember, safety and career development are a priority for everyone in a business!
So, whether you are just starting out in the industry and want to give your career a boost or you have overall responsibility for health & safety, considering an SSP course would be a good move.
The Construction Industry Training Board, more commonly referred to as CITB, have been around since 1964 and opened their first training centre in 1966.
Their mission is to ‘attract and support the development of people to construct a better Britain’, they aim to do this by making sure as many employees as possible in civil engineering and construction industries are working safely and maximising their skills potential.
Our own aims closely align with those of the CITB which is why are happy to deliver their courses through our own training centres.
As mentioned already, the courses in the scheme have been developed specifically for the building industry so are very specific in their nature. CITB are passionate about making the industry a safer one, as well as ensuring that everyone has the chance to progress their careers.
SSP courses can be taken as a one off but are intended to be stepping stones to career progression and once a course is completed, there is a clear pathway for most employees in terms of what they could achieve next.
When carrying out training with CITB you also know that you are learning with the best as CITB set the industry standard in terms of quality training.
Site Safety Plus courses are delivered by training companies who have been approved by CITB to deliver their courses. We are a CITB Site Safety Plus Centre so can deliver SSP courses in line with what CITB want to achieve.
We are also a CITB Approved Training Organisation (CITB ATO) so can help with you with training grants.
Funding may be available for SSP courses, depending on your circumstances.
The CITB grants scheme is open to all employers and is a scheme designed to fill skills gaps within the construction industry.
To use your grant, you must carry out your training via an organisation that is a CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO) which, you will be happy to know we are!
Funding is also available to smaller organisations of less than 100 employees through the CITB Skills and Training Fund.
If you have any questions about funding or aren’t sure if you are eligible, then please get in touch using the details at the bottom of this post.
We have a range of courses available for you to book today, ranging from Health and Safety Awareness (HSA) to the Temporary Works Coordinator Training Course (TWCTC)
