Course Information

The City & Guilds Medium Risk Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces course (6160-09) is designed for individuals responsible for controlling entry and overseeing work activities within medium risk confined space environments.

This qualification provides delegates with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely enter confined spaces and manage entry arrangements in line with current safety standards.

Training is delivered in City & Guilds approved confined space training facilities, using realistic simulated environments. Delegates will take part in practical exercises that replicate real working conditions, including confined space entry procedures, emergency escape techniques and the use of specialist breathing apparatus.

During the course, delegates will develop an understanding of how to recognise hazards commonly associated with confined spaces, including atmospheric risks, and how to apply appropriate control measures. The course also covers safe systems of work, risk assessment procedures and the correct use of monitoring equipment and safety devices.

This qualification reflects the National Occupational Standards for working in medium risk confined space environments and is applicable across both water and non-water industry sectors.

Course Pre-Requisites

Delegates attending this course must:

  • Be 16 years of age or older
  • Be physically and medically fit to undertake confined space practical training
  • Be capable of safely entering and exiting restricted environments

Due to the practical nature of confined space training, the recommended maximum weight limit is 20 stone.

Delegates must also be able to understand and communicate in English in order to complete the training and assessments.

Participants may be required to complete a fitness or medical declaration before the course begins.

  • Maintaining effective communication during confined space operations
  • Responding to emergencies and implementing emergency procedures

Course Benefits

This course provides delegates with a clear understanding of how to safely plan, manage and carry out work in medium risk confined space environments.

Learners will gain practical experience using confined space safety equipment and develop the knowledge required to identify hazards, apply safe systems of work and control entry arrangements.

On successful completion, delegates will achieve the City & Guilds Level 2 qualification for Medium Risk Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces, confirming their competence to work safely in these environments.
