With over 40 years of experience in the trade, they are one of the most highly respected firms in the industry. Over the years they have delivered a number of services for a wide range of clients and projects, including hatch installation for the Eithad Stadium in Manchester, and weatherproofing for extreme conditions at Qatar airport.

What they needed
With around 50 staff currently under their employment, Jones and Woolman were increasingly finding it difficult to find the necessary time and resources for training. Given the very specific nature of their job and the expertise it requires, upskilling existing staff was vital for them keep growing and deliver bigger contracts. As part of Serco’s expert training network, Essential Site Skills were chosen to help deliver the Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) funding from the ESFA. This funding gave us the opportunity to help small-to-medium business enterprises (SMEs) find the funding for their training needs. As we had positive, pre-existing relationship with Jones and Woolman, we worked closely with the company to help them make the most of this funding for their NVQ requirements.
Outcome
The training we provided made a massive difference to the Jones and Woolman workforce. Completing these qualifications gave workers more opportunities to progress through the organisation, improving their own career chances and the skill-base of the company as a whole. This experience has also benefited the morale of their workforce. Taking the time train workers helps to make them feel valued by the company and can take more pride in their work. This in turn could help the company in the long-run in terms of productivity and staff-retention.
